SANFORD, Fla. (April 11, 2018) – Seminole State College of Florida’s Board of Trustees today announced Dr. Georgia Lorenz as president-elect.
The announcement follows constituent group meetings at Seminole State’s Sanford/Lake Mary Campus with faculty, staff, students, alumni and Foundation Board members, plus a community social event. Three finalists also were interviewed by the College’s Board of Trustees. The president-elect was voted upon and unanimously approved by the Board on April 11.
Dr. Lorenz is currently vice president of Academic Affairs at Santa Monica College in California and is set to become Seminole State’s third president to succeed Dr. E. Ann McGee on Aug. 1, 2018, who has successfully served the College for the last 22 years.
In her letter of interest for the position, Dr. Lorenz expressed the following:
“As a leader, I value competency, creativity and integrity. My work is focused on excellence in education that is student-centered. I operate with great care and deep commitment for the work that we do, for those I have the privilege to work with and for students…I have a deep understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to, the direct and lasting effect the services we deliver as an educational institution have on the lives of the people and communities we serve.”
“Dr. Lorenz’s experience, leadership and authenticity are quite impressive. She has proven to be the right candidate for Seminole State College,” said Wendy Brandon, chair of the Board of Trustees and CEO of Central Florida Regional Hospital. “Dr. Lorenz is passionate about students, faculty and staff. Her innovative ideas will further the mission of the College. She has expressed her desire to ‘start before she starts’ by learning about the College and hitting the ground running to embrace the community at large. We want our next president to feel the full support of the Board of Trustees and of the College. We look forward to welcoming her as the third president to lead Seminole State.”
The selection of Seminole State’s president-elect is the culmination of an eight-month national search, assisted by AGB Search, for the College’s third president involving a search committee consisting of representatives from administration, faculty, staff, students, community stakeholders and alumni and chaired by Rick Lee, former trustee, Seminole State College, and current president of Citizens Bank of Florida. Wendy Brandon also served on the committee. The next stage in the process will be approval of a contract between the Board of Trustees and Dr. Lorenz.
