Seminole State College of Florida is in the running for the top prize for community colleges in the U.S.

The Sanford-based state college was named a top 10 finalist for the 2025 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence by the Aspen Institute. Colleges are chosen from a group of more than 1,000, with the winning institution receiving $1 million.

The award — given every two years — tracks levels of student success, as well as achieving equitable outcomes for low-income students as well as those who are Black and Hispanic.
